There's one thing that I'm surprised that no one has mentioned in this thread: all races need to be unique statistically, otherwise race distinctness dissappears. How exactly will ArenaNet balance that in a game where everything is equal? World of Warcraft hasn't balanced the races, and they've had 2 years...

Different disciplines use different variations of the coordinate systems. For example, mathematicians typically use a right-handed coordinate system with the y-axis pointing up, while engineers typically use a left-handed coordinate system with the z-axis pointing up. This has the potential to lead to confusion when engineers and mathematicians work on the same project.

Please note that from that article;
some is acurate
some is dead wrong
most is inaccurate and misleading
Adding a race or races to the game doesn't mean you can play as those races. We've got Dwarf, Centaur, Tengu, Forgotten, Yeti, Giant and Human races now. but you can only play human.

I mean you probably wouldnt want things like Charr, Centaurs and Yetis. Just because in some of the campaigns there the bad guys... BUT things like Dwarfs and Elfs could be used because there not in the storyline as u fighting them... YES I know (B4 your start ranting on bout how stupid i am) there are dwarfs that are bad guys, but there are also good ones...

Actually, I wasn't gonna mention the fact that there are dwarves that are bad. I was gonna mention the fact that dwarves and elves are too overused. Some people are saying if we add playable races the game would become like WoW. Usually, I disagree, because most GW races are very unique and interesting. If there were elves and dwarves as playable races, the game would become that little bit more like WoW, and just about every other fantasy game out there. I play GW for two things: the awesome storyline, and the originality.
I don't think they'll ever add Centaur as a playable race, because the sprites are too big. And I don't know why they'd ever consider using Yetis. Yetis are too similar to trolls anyway.
I think adding Charr as a playable race is a great idea. Playable races offer more depth. Playable races would bring storylines from different perspectives (at least, that's what I'm hoping for. I don't want them to bother if it's just an aesthetic thing).

I said it in another thread and I will say it here also. Just because there are new races doesn't mean it will throw off the balance of the game. No one said that different races will get different bonuses and weakness and different skills, new races may just be more eye candy and nothing more.

I can't imagine how non-human character would unbalance the game. How would a Charr Warrior with 200 attribute points be any different than a human warrior with the same 20 points?
I would like to see playable races; in order, The Forgotten (who come out of hiding once Abaddon is down), the Naga (who are rebuilding their destroyed civilization), the Centaurs (who still hold power in parts of Tyria), and the Charr (if they make peace having found their gods to be false).
No need for imbalance; just different skins for those of us who tire of being human all day.

Lol i wasnt saying that they could be races... im just saying those are races that wouldnt interfere with the storyline... Tengu would because they are somewhat hated bye humans in the factions storyline

Unfortunately any races added would have to be at least slightly human to work with the game engine properly unless they totally redevelop it.
Personally speaking as a ranger - I would always stick with a human character unless they added an elf type race.

This is very true. That's why Guild Wars 1 is so eff 'ed up with the changes in the name of balance.
Hopefully they maintain the uniqueness of each character in GW2. And if they want to balance officially sanctioned 1 team vs 1 team pvp competition, they must do it by adding environmental factors that will equalize things, not by changing the actual skills or whatever.

We'll just have to see what they do with races before deciding what needs to be nerfed.
On an irrelevant note; Leon is one of the all time coolest movies. Twenty cool points for you.

If they have different playable races with special skills, it will be fine as long as they are pve only skills. I see much more pve only skills in the future.
